Top Business Risks for Telco Operators

A while ago, my colleague Franklin Flint blogged about the top 5 challenges emerging for the carriers and service providers. Along those lines I’m taking this opportunity to share some of the business risks Telecom Operators may be facing (pulled from Ernst and Young 2012 report top 10 risks in Telecommunications) and how Dell OEM Solutions provides elements to support Operators facing these challenges.

Failure to shift the business model from minutes to bytes

More and more mobile phone users value access to data over voice, involuntarily contributing to the rise of over-the-top providers. As value shifts from minutes of usage to volumes of data, operators need to move away from their legacy ...

Industrial PCs explosive growth

Forecast Chart by Frost & Sullivan, published in “it-production.com, Oct.2012

I recently read a report from Frost & Sullivan which stated that the total market of Industrial PCs is showing enormous growth. The expected growth rate is from 2.1 B$ in 2011 to 3.2 B$ in 2015. This includes all types of industrial PCs, from smallest embedded controllers up to full blown rack mounted servers.

These IPCs are aggressively priced and also seem to meet the performance and quality expectations of many Industrial Automation customers.

This leads to a situation, where Tier-1 companies such as Dell OEM Solutions come into play, with economy of scale and production quality of millions of commodity ...

OEM Telecom Appliance Customer Reduces Delivery Time by 50 Percent Improving Customer Service

One of the pleasures about working in Dell’s OEM business is the opportunity to meet with customers and spend time understanding their business.   The OEM approach is not about product, it’s about the overall business strategy our customers are working towards and how Dell can bring true value in assisting them achieve that potential.

One of the recent meetings I had the pleasure of spending half a day with Lucas Wensing, CEO of StartReady a company that provides unified communications applications to business.  Based in Holland the company have recently made the decision to standardise on Dell OEM’s server based application capability and in doing so are seeing fundamental benefits to ...

We finished our 2 week tour of Europe on Friday, 21st September, with our last OEM Technology Roadshow taking place in Frankfurt, Germany. As another installment in a series of Q-and-As with Tim Pavlovich, a Services Consultant with Dell OEM Solutions, we will discuss some creative ways to help you solve the complex challenge of creating a global supply chain and support infrastructure to service your customers more efficiently.

What types of global supply chain and support challenges are our customers facing?

Pavlovich:  One thing I hear a lot from customers is that they need more ways to play to their strengths and focus on their core value to their customers—often their intellectual property and innovation. In many cases, they are realizing that running a global supply chain and support infrastructure isn’t really their core competency.

I got this email the other day following a business trip.

Dear Platinum Customer, Please tell us how we did on your last flight and what we could do to make it better?

My honest response was, “Well, you packed us into a commuter plane for a 3-hour flight and then we sat on the runway for an hour. So having four hours on a plane with one very small restroom didn’t make for the best travel experience. And by the way, thanks for introducing me to retired NFL offensive linemen by making them my seatmate on the last 5 flights. Maybe next time, given how small the seats are, ...
